What an ‘OASIS’… of the Seas

Nov 22, 2009 – You know, we have been hearing about this new ship coming out… the largest cruise ship ever built, well it is GINORMOUS!

oasis of the seas

As we arrived at the pier, there were ooo’s and aaaah’s from everyone on the bus. Look how big it is next to that ship, oh it is beautiful, and on and on.

We were all wondering how embarkation would go, considering the amount of passengers for this monster, but the Port of FLL has built a wonderful new terminal and the embarkation was almost seamless. No pictures to share as of course they do not allow photos in the terminal or near the security areas. But there were many buses arriving at the same time and it took less than 30 minutes to get onboard.

Once onboard we took our things to our stateroom, which was an ocean view family stateroom with a balcony. Very nice room, with that still ‘new’ smell :)

Then we grabbed the camera and were off to explore. We had a list of cabins in many different categories that were open or inspection:

12175 Standard Inside Stateroom

12577 – Central Park View

9244 Royal Family Suite

11640 Owners Suite

1740 Royal Loft Suite

and my favorite… 9730 Aqua Theater Suite

After seeing the staterooms, we walked around the other 17 decks, looking at the 7 neighborhoods, 34 restaurants and bars, the 6 pools, solarium, and the spa & fitness center.

This ship has 2704 staterooms, hosts 5400+ people, and 2100 crew… wow, what a ship.

The last evening we enjoyed the talent of Mosaic

NACTA Conference 2009

Nov 20, 2009 – Well NEST Fest is over today, and we are on our way to the Sheraton for the NACTA conference. After checking in, we went to the Sweet Tomato for a quick lunch. Then this afternoon met some of the other agents and went to the Celebration Ship for a welcome reception and tour.

This ship was previously a ferry in the Baltic, they have completely re-done it and although it is small 36,000 tons it is quite nice. The staff is great, and although the cabins are small they are clean and comfortable.

Tonight we went to dinner with several other agents at the Fish Company, which is actually a restaurant inside the Bass Pro Shop. The food was very good! The company and conversation was GREAT!

Penney said she has been to this presentation several times but always learns so much so she went again.

Next was lunch, yummy… then General Sessions and 4 breakouts. We heard from: Globus, all about their wonderful tours as well as the Avalon cruises. Carl from Celebrity gave us all the new info about where they are going in 2010 as well as an update on the Solsitice, what a beautiful ship!!!! Then on to #3, with NACTA, a Q&A session which was very informative and finally Viking River Cruises.

This evening was a blast ‘from the past’, dinner was sponsored by Celebrity cruises and the theme was a 1970’s party. Many agents came dressed, Penney and Kevin did not :) But look at some of these folks!!

NEST Fest 2009

Nov 18, 2009 - Penney and I are departing this morning for Fort Lauderdale where she will be attending the FEST Fest.

1:50pm – we just arrived at the Hilton Marina Hotel, it has recently been renovated.   We had a lovely lunch while watching the beautiful yachts coming and going.

3:30pm  Penney, Carol and Glenn went to their first seminar, 101 ways to sell more cruises by Dave Stockert.   I decided to sit on the balcony of our room and enjoy the marina view while they were gone.

Penney said that the seminar was really good, they discussed marketing ideas and where to find group leaders.   This evening, Kevin arrived (he had to stay in Nashville today and work) we attended a welcome reception and called it an early evening.

Nov 19, 2009 – Up and out early for breakfast with Josh, from the Fort Lauderdale CVB.

Next was General Sessions, the President of NEST welcomed us and then Scott Koepf, President of NACTA spoke on The State of the Travel Industry.   He was great… he spoke with passion, humor and even sang to us :)

Then onto 3 breakouts, where we heard about all the booking and marketing tools that NEST has to offer.

We had a fabulous lunch at China Grill….   wow, were we stuffed.  So I decided I would go back to the room for a quick nap while Kevin & Penney went to the trade show.   I did join them for the last seminar with Nolan Burris.  He was talking on social media, Facebook, MYSpace, and Twitter.

This evening the delegates were split into groups of 10 and each supplier hosted a meal.  Our supplier was  Alycia with Princess Cruises.   She was very generous and treated us to dinner at the Fishery.   We had a wonderful dinner, good conversation and lots of fun.

Well NEST Fest has come to an end… tomorrow we are going on to the next conference, NACTA.

Lady Bug GoGo ‘s to the learning conference in Punta Cana

October 2, 2009  -  for our next adventure we are on our way to the GoGo Learning conference being held in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.  I am so excite that they are letter me tag along….  usually when the two of them travel I am left back in the office since they like that alone time…  but this IS a work trip so I get to go too.   We are also accompanied by Meloney and Andre’ Kelly, agents of The Travel Planner.

We left Nashville this morning at 6:15AM… now that is early, changed planes in Miami (where our flight was late departing) and arrived in Punta at 2:20pm.

IMG00113-20091002-1324

We were greeted by the GoGo staff, they were great.  We were quickly escorted to air conditioned buses and on our way to our host hotel, the Moon Palace.   Upon arrival there was a nice reception with drinks and yummy food.   (which was very much appreciated)

IMGP8329 IMGP8328

Once registered, we checked out our beautiful room

and then we were free to explore the property.

At 7:30pm we all met in the lobby and boarded the buses for dinner, our host for the evening was Dreams.  The greeted us in style…

IMGP8356IMGP8357

Because of rain, we were unable to enjoy the beautiful beach dinner they had planned.  The staff did an excellent job at moving the dinner into the conference center… in a mere 20 minutes.

The room looked wonderful, they had a good band and the food was FABULOUS!   Our started was huge shrimp cocktails, followed by a avocado and mango salad, and our main course was surf and turf.  The wait staff was even dressed in scuba outfits.

Whew….LONG day, didn’t get back to our hotel until 12:35am.    NIGHTY NIGHT

October 3, 2009  -  Up early to get to breakfast seminar at 7:30a, sponsored by

IMGP8389    Our general sessions was very interesting hearing about all the new and upcoming changes with GoGo.

We boarded the buses for lunch at Excellence.   First we did a site inspection of the property, really beautiful…

And those suites…

We toured two more resorts, the Majestic Elegance and the Riu Punta Cana.

Our bus was scheduled to arrive back at our host hotel at 6p, but with the due diligence of our group and our fearless leader, Jacqueline, (whom I became good friends with)

IMGP8449

we arrived back at the hotel at 5p…  giving us an additional hour to rest and relax before dinner.  Kevin and Penney, of course checked email and returned some phone calls (they are work –a – holics) but not me… I headed to the beach for some sun and sand!

Meeting at 7:30 in the lobby, we were off to dinner at  Paradisus Palma Real.   They had a cocktail reception for us, with entertainment.

and then we headed to the beach for dinner.   We met some great agents to sit with, had a wonderful dinner and conversation.

October 4, 2009 – Today is another early morning,  I decided I needed some pool time so Penney & Kevin attended breakfast and general assembly. They said that the GoGo staff shared with them information and updates regarding their website an how to link to facebook.  They  also learned more marketing tools available.

Next, they were separated into groups and attended product classes, which I was interested in so I joined the rest…  the presentations I attended were updates on the Caribbean, USA & Canada, Mexico and Hawaii & Tahiti, Kevin & Penney tagged along too.

Sandals sponsored our Lunch and then we attended the tradeshow with many of the hoteliers from the DR and Mexico.   I met some really great people, from Atlantis in the Bahamas

IMGP8536

Dinner was sponsored by the Palace Resorts, and dessert by Disney…   there was fabulous food, dancing, and meeting so many new friends from GoGo.

IMGP8527 IMGP8525

and even my old friends Fred and Mary Jane were there!

IMGP8542

by the way….  Happy Birthday Mary Jane

Well as all good things have to….  our time in beautiful Punta Cana came to an end as we say goodbye to new friends.

Ladybug and Liberty!

August 29, 2009  -  So we left Nashville on August 29th, headed to beautiful Florida to board our cruise on Royal Caribbean’s, Liberty of the Seas.   We flew into Fort Lauderdale where Penney’s friend Sue picked us up and we headed to the Port of Miami.   You may ask, ‘why did they fly into FLL if they are going to Miami?’  Well if you know Penney you would know it is because it is less expensive to fly Southwest to FLL, and they have direct non-stop flights too.

So we reach the port, finally find parking and get out bags checked with the porter…  along with 3000+ other guests, yikes, i hope my luggage tag is secure and my bags make it to my cabin.   I need my thong bikini to go to the pool while Penney attends her classes!

This ship is HUGE!   We have walked around for a couple of hours and haven’t even seen everything.   We have however, found the windjammer cafe and had a nice lunch.  They have many stations of food so you don’t feel like you are standing in line forever.  They had a grill area with hamburgers and hot dogs,  a carving station with beef and veggies, a pizza & pasta area and of course soups and salads (yep that is where Penney & Sue chose to eat).

Next we went to find our stateroom, what a nice surprise to see a verandah….  that must have been Sue’s idea.

IMGP8172 IMGP8175 IMGP8177

Then it was off for more exploration, we visited the kids area, wow now that looks like a fun place to hang out, but they don’t allow adults!  The living room is for the teens and have large video screens for music videos and tv programs, they also show movies, they have computers and conversational areas.  the arcade is awesome, and you can use your sign & sail card to access them… watch out Mom’s and Dad’s!

IMGP8189   IMGP8186 IMGP8187

After the life boat drill we wandered around a bit more and then they (Penney & Sue) started getting ready for dinner.   I was not invited to go as they made reservations in one of the specialty restaurants, The Chop House.  This steak house is known for their white glove service, gourmet food and ambience.  I chose to stay in the cabin and order room service.   When they returned to the stateroom, Penney shared with me that she had a fabulous meal including onion soup, filet, and a yummy Mississippi mud pie.

Since it has been a long day of traveling we called it a night early.

August 30, 2009  -   Ok, this morning we started with a lovely breakfast in the Rembrandt dining room.   I chose to stick with juice and danish, but Penney had her ‘cruise breakfast’ which is eggs benedict.   Sue had a bowl of oatmeal, which actually looked very good.

Next we were off to our first seminar.   I am not really required to attend, but thought i would go just to see what was going on.  The mornings session were all CLIA classes, the first was Selling Cruises as a Homebased Agent  The second was Knowing the world we sell, both we video based and then we had brief discussions before we broke for lunch.

We chose to go to Johnny Rockets…   and how convenient….  the arcade and teen area is right next to Johnny Rockets.  YUM, look at those onion rings and fries, and the entertainment is good too.

IMGP8183 IMGP8182 IMGP8192

During our break, we walked by three of the pools,  the first is the H2O Zone….   what fun!   the kids and some adults were having a great time.

IMGP8198 IMGP8196

The next pool was the adult ‘active’ pool, where they were having a line dance class.   These folks were having so much fun, i wanted to join in but party pooper Penney said no because we had more to see more before heading back to class.

IMGP8200

The last pool we visited was the Serenity Pool, so quiet…   I need to go get a book and find me a lounge, this is such a lovely place.   They also offer a healthy choice light sandwiches and salads available.    And there are two hot tubs that a built into the side of the ship….   what a view!

IMGP8205 IMGP8206

We popped into the fitness center to look around, I may try to come back later to get in a work out.  :)    They have several treadmills looking out the front of the ship… how awesome to exercise while looking at the sea.  They offer spin classes, yoga, palates, and even have a full size professional boxing ring.   No, i don’t think I will be getting in there. :)   But would love to spend some time in the spa.

IMGP8219 IMGP8220 IMGP8209

Hmmm maybe I will make an appointment with the acupuncturist!

IMGP8213

Before heading back to class we walked the promenade.   There is a Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream shop, Seattle’s Best Coffee & Pastry shop, Sorrento's Pizzeria, and shopping… oh my, there is a general store, cosmetics store, jewelry store and so many more.

 IMGP8238 IMGP8237IMGP8252

IMGP8224 IMGP8226 IMGP8253

Something that Royal Caribbean has in the common area of the promenade that other cruise lines do not is a community bulletin board where you can post a meeting or personal message for other passengers.

IMGP8247

The Sphinx Lounge is a pretty cool place to hang out too

IMGP8251

Right in the promenade they have an ATM machine for those that like to visit the casino or play bingo.   Here is a picture of my with Sue, we wanted to go to play bingo but Penney said no, she is making us go back to the second session of our onboard seminar on Selling Tools.  Hmmm, since the ship is so large we use the handy ship maps located near the elevators and stairways.

IMGP8254 IMGP8255    IMGP8256

more later….   while Penney & Sue are being educated, I think i will get my afternoon nap :)

After my nap, Penny returned back to the cabin after class, we hurried down to the Ice Show.   Those skaters are so talented and the costumes are fabulous.   We had a light supper in the Windjammer Cafe tonight and turned in early.

August 31, 2009   First let me wish JP a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Ok this morning we ordered room service and had breakfast on our veranda, what a beautiful morning.    Penney and Sue have class again all day so I think I will  hang by the pool.

…  back from a wonderful day of relaxation, i went and watched some folks at on the flow rider, who would have ever thought you would be able to surf while cruising??    What fun!

IMGP8308

As Penney and Sue get back from another full day of training, I enjoy the sunset.

  IMGP8266

After a wonderful dinner, we walked around the ship (needed the exercise after that meal!).   when we returned to the cabin, our cabin steward had tidied up our stateroom, turned down the bed and left me a little friend :)

IMGP8269

September 1, 2009   Today we are in St. Maarten.   We chose to stay on the Dutch side, taking a water taxi from the dock to Phillipsburg.   We wondered, shopped, walked on the beach and enjoyed a Guava Colada, mmmmmm.  Penney even bought a ‘feel good’ watch, you know the one that Oprah likes…  by Phillip Stein

Sept 2, 2009

We were in San Juan Puerto Rico today… it was overcast and cloudy but we went ashore for a little while.   Old San Juan is a quaint area, we walked the streets did some shopping,   We found a lovely Starbucks with a comfortable area to have a smoothy, and of course, Penney and Sue had to check their email and do a little work.

IMGP8280

Sept 3, 2009    We docked in the bay at Labadee Haiti today, this is Royal Caribbean’s own little paradise with water sports like an aqua park, snorkeling, parasailing, jet skiing or just relaxing on the beach.   There are also many nature trails for the adventurous.

IMGP8290 IMGP8286

Sept 4, 2009   -  So today is a day at sea, and Penney will be in classes for most of the day so I am going to soak up some more rays and relax.

When Penney and Sue returned from class, we all went to lunch in the dining room.  It was really yummy but I ate way to much, Penney had committed to meeting with a couple of agents to talk so came back to the cabin to take a nap.

Tonight we all went to dinner at Portofino’s the Italian restaurant.   It was wonderful!

After, we walked around more of this huge beautiful ship.

Sept 5, 2009  -   Headed home today…  we were originally scheduled on an afternoon fight but Penney’s wonderful husband called the airline and was able to change our flight to an earlier one…  much earlier!
